Can I work for myself?
Many people who startup businesses from home end up failing early on; they don’t mean to but the freedom to sit about the house all day can go to your head and there’s so much TV you’ve missed out on. You might even be tempted to go out and do stuff all day that you never had the time for, but don’t fall into this bad habit. You’ll end up never getting any work done! If you think you can work from home without dodging work, good.
Am I a patient?
It can take a few months to establish a steady income, and not everyone is able to wait. You need to be able to live with the fact that for a few months, you might not make a profit; but once you’ve found your niche, you’ll be golden. If it doesn’t happen right away, don’t be deterred from your goal. Every day that you stay in business is at least one competitor who has dropped out of the game.
Am I cheerful and genuine?
Clients and customers don’t want to hear about your problems. This is a sad fact, but there’s no way around it. Every time you interact with someone else in the business, be as positive, helpful, and nice as possible. People like working with good people, and this is one of the biggest keys to success.
Do I really want to do this?
You need to have a sit down and really think about the course of your life if your business succeeds or fails. Can you take the hit, and can you handle success? Are you at a point in your life where you are ready for this? If so, your own business is for you.
